Three New Books and One New Song

The Library. I could live in it. If books were an acceptable diet, I'd live off nothing else. I haven't read a bunch this year like planned to. But, finally, I've found several books that I think I'm happy with. Yesterday my brother was so gracious to take me to our Library.

I found these two books:

Peak  by Roland Smith

I've started this one and I'm almost half-way through. I've glanced at it a few times at the Library but never took the time to look at it. I've made a new rule though! I have to read the description and if doesn't interest me, I leave it at that. But if it does, I have to read at least a page of the book to see if I like the writing style. That's what I did with this one. It's one of those books that has a certain crowd it will draw in. If you're into the things Peak does, or just think what he does is cool, then it will be your type of book. But, if you don't like Peak's interest, you're not going to enjoy it much. I'm enjoying it because I envy Peak for his amazing abilities. I would love to do what he is doing in the book. Anyway, just check it out.

Next is, The House on Tradd Street by Karen White.

I ventured out of the Teen Section into the Adult Section, this time not in search for Ted Dekker or Lord of the Rings. I actually found a book in the Adult Section that looked interesting. I don't have much to say about this book because I haven't started it yet, but I am crossing my fingers. It better not let me down. xD

We also went to Ed McKay's last night. Ed Mckay's is a used book store that we love to go to. Their books are cheap and you can usually find them in pretty good condition. And, I just like the look of the place.  I bought a hard cover book there for only $2.50. And it's in great condition! It's called The Revenge of the Shadow King. Okay, okay. I'm aware and sounds and looks totally lame, but I was trying to be prejudice and judge a book by it's cover. It turns out, I just might like this book. I read a few pages and found it strangely interesting. I figured for $2.50, it was worth a try.

Now, onto the new song I have discovered. It's a Coldplay song and if you know me, I love Coldplay. It's a new song they released from the up coming album, Mylo Xyloto. I have no clue how to say that and what it means. Annnyway!

Here is the song:
The song may not be for everyone, but it's  has sure been made for me! I'm totally going to over play this song. (Yes, I'm one of THOSE people.)

I hope you have enjoyed!

My Book Stack

If I had to give up all but five books in my room, which ones would I keep?

This happens to be one of the toughest questions of my life. This post will probably take me a hour plus to write.

I already know Book #1, which is...

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
This just happens to be one of my favorite books ever. I've read it three times now and won't hesitate to read it a fourth time. I haven't exactly pinpointed what makes me love the book so much. Maybe it's because I'm was/am a lot like Scout. Or, maybe because the relationship between Scout and her brother, Jem, is a lot like the one between Sam and me. Or it's because the book forces you to go back to when you were a child and think like you were a child. It makes you open your eyes a little wider, like you're still discovering, because as we grow older we tend to forget that we don't know everything and there is still so much more to know. Just a few reasons I love this book. (I love this cover too. It's one of my favorite covers for To Kill A Mockingbird. )

Book #2. Well, after searching through all my book piles I'd have to say....Squashed by Joan Bauer.
I got this book from one of my Aunts (most likely my Aunt Julie) and have enjoyed it over the years. I've read it two and a half times. (xD) Just like To Kill A Mockingbird I'm still not sure what I like about the book so much. The writing is wonderful. (I've heard Joan Bauer has other great books.) I think one reason I admire this book is how the reader is easily able to connect with Ellie, the main character. (I find it funny that Joan Bauer chose Ellie to be the girls name because I have a friend named Ellie Bauer. Sorry, I just had to share that.) She's a regular teenage girl with a interesting hobby. I think I'd like her if I really got to meet her.

Book #3. Let me go rummage through my book shelves and piles again..., aha! I got it. I didn't even remember I had this book...

Anyway, it would be: The Young Unicorns by Madeleine L'Engle.

Although it's not my all time favorite book, I've enjoyed it anyway. I can't totally remember everything it's about, but I do know that each time I read it (which has been two times), I can't wait to piece together the puzzle. It's a good mystery, if I'm right. This book is as far as I've made it into the Austin Family series. Maybe I should try and read the whole series...

Book #4. Inkheart by Cornelia Funk

Although I haven't read it in a while, I've always loved this book. I think this one I've read one and a half times. I'm not in awe of it like I use to be, but I like the clever idea so much. I wish I was like Mo or Maggie, surrounded by books all the time and able to speak them out. Lucky dogs.

Finally! The last book I will save! Ummmmmmm. Once again I'm going to rummage through my room. I got it!

Book #5. The Penderwicks (there is no link because Amazon wouldn't load...) by Jeanne Birdsail.
It's directed more towards 10, 11, 12 year olds (or somewhere around there), it's still a personal favorite, along with the second book, but I can't take them both. My mom and I read this book together and loved it. Skye was my favorite character, even though she loved math. So, yeah. Pretty beast book right here.

And, yes, it took me about a hour to write this post. I hope you enjoyed it! :D
So, I think I'm going to tag people because I'm interested in what books they would save.

I tag Hannah, Angie and iZaynab! (I'm sorry, I was too lazy to do links. xD) Have fun! :D

Heros

I'm not going to say a lot about 9/11. There's not much to be said. Over these 10 years people have composed great stories, articles, books, ect. that depict the sorrow that swept through America that day. A sorrow so strong, we still feel it today. Although we feel the pain and sorrow, we also feel unity and determination like never before.

Most people ask 'Do you remember what you were doing on 9/11?" Sadly, I can't remember. I guess I was too young to understand. But over the past few years, as I've grown older and realized the full results of 9/11, I've joined in the mourning of that day.

Every time I watch videos or old news reports on the event, I don't only feel pain, I feel the urge to do something. I feel like I can do something that will honor the men and woman who fell on 9/11, wether it was those on the plane, those in the Twin Towers, or even those roaming the streets below. I would love to become a Fire-Fighter, or Policewoman, or any of the first-responders. I would love to become part of the military, but I don't have what it takes.

And I don't mean I don't have muscle (not saying I do ether.). I'm not saying I don't have the skill. No. It's just that every time I think about a future as a first responder or soldier I wonder. I wonder one thing; do have have the strength to walk on, straight into the fire, even if I'm scared? Because that's what they do. The first responders and soldiers, they're not heros because they were physically strong or incredibly smart. No, it's because, even when afraid they were able to keep on going.

A hero does feel fear. A hero does feel pain. A hero does have the urge to turn and run. But what sets heros apart is their ability to ignore those feelings, stash them away, and fight. It's easy to be invincible and fight, it's heroic to be weak and fight.

That's why the men and woman who died saving those in the Pentagon and Twin Towers, and even those who fought on the planes, are true heros. There is no doubt they felt fear, any human would. But unlike some of us, they didn't let it get in their way.

To all the heros of  the past, the present and the future, may God's love surrounded you and comfort you. There is a special place for all you in my heart and those of every American. We won't forget what you have done and will do.

And I will finish this supposedly short post by saying: America took a shocking blow ten years ago. It feels like we're still recovering and some ways, we are. But what was meant to send terror into our hearts and break us down, only brought us up and made us stand together, as one. Even as America struggles with political problems, there will be one thing that makes us all unite and stand beside our brothers and sisters. What terrorist tried to take away from us will now only grow and become stronger.  The memory of 9/11 can not and will not be forgotten.

'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.' John 15:13

With Much Love,

P.S

I thought I'd share part of what I wrote last year at this time. As I read part of that post, I'm not sure what to think. But this part, this part I remember writing and still agree with it.

"Tomorrow will be 9/11.

Tomorrow will be the day to remember the thousands that died in just one day within hours.

Tomorrow was the day, nine years ago, that could easily be a day that we will remember as 'The Day that Changed the World'.

Tomorrow, nine years ago, was the day the America came together as one.

Tomorrow is a day we will need to pray for those who wanted this to happen, that were effected by it and those who had to watch it happen.

Tomorrow--half the nation will go along with their every day business, not even thinking about what happened nine years ago.

Tomorrow people will be just another day for some people.

But for me?
It will never, ever, ever, be the same.
I will never be able to think of Sept. Eleventh the same.

Some people have chosen to forget it, some people don't care, some people are so ignorant they say we should all forget it.

Me?
I will pray for the families of those who were lost in that tragic day.

I was about six around the time.  I didn't know what was going on.  I didn't get it.  I didn't understand.

I knew no one who was there. Who was hurt by it or died during it.

I've never even been to New York.

But yet I still feel the pain. I still cry when I see the footage. When I see pictures of one of the towers falling and the other one with the plane flying towards it I can't express the sorrow I feel.

Now I try to imagine how it felt to be there. On that day and watch. Imagine knowing someone you love is in there. How could someone cope with that?

I saw a video that someone took of one of the towers falling from the street. You want to know what killed me? The screaming. You could hear woman, children and men screaming. Some yelling, "Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!" Not in a excited I just won this new C.D 'Oh my gosh' but in a totally different kind. The most horrified, devastated kind.

But the one picture that made me cry to no end was a soldier (or fireman, policeman, ect.) dressed in his Blues (or whatever they are called. I feel bad not knowing.). He was saluting. Shoulders squared, a brave air about him--and tears in his eyes. His face screwed up as he tried to hold back those tears. I can't even start to imagine what he saw that day.

Like I said. I was six at the time. I don't even remember much of it. But it still makes me cry. It brings unbearable pain to me. How, then, can half of America forget?

Forget the day that changed us? The day were America stood tall as one. Came together and held one another. How could people who saw this happen easily brush it aside?"

If Your Computer Crashed Because of This Post...

I'm sorry.

I thought I'd give you a nice long post about my trip...but in pictures.
Yay!
Enjoy, please. :]

My brother, Sam.

Sam and Esther!

Sam and Esther greeting school friends, Sydney and Marcella.

No, they're not dancing; they're thumb wrestling. Don't ask.

BFFL!<3 (lol)

Who is Cindy? I dunno.

Awwww. (Snort. Not.)

I wish I had Esther's camera skill. Oh well, one day I will! She's got a gift, that's for sure.

Only the cool people see the monuments at 11 at night.

This was my favorite place.

Pretty dang proud of this one.

New cups make for better pictures. Still tasty though.

She has coffee every hour, I swear.

I love Monet. I love Van Gogh more. Then why the heck do I have no pictures of Van Gogh's work?

Squirrels are BEAST. (And good models)

Deciding if they want to eat there or not.

I take that back. This was my favorite place.

First time I ever went to a Ben & Jerry's. Beast.

And that's the end folks! :]
