"Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and grey
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colours on the snowy linen land
Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen
They did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now
Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds and violet haze
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue
Colours changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artists' loving hand
Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen
They did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now
For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left inside
On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you Vincent
This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you
Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn of bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow
Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen
They're not listening still
Perhaps they never will..."

My deep, passionate love for Vincent Van Gogh will never die. His paintings are beautiful. So. Dang. Beautiful. I'm Van Gogh's fangirl and always will be. Some like Orlando Bloom and the like (not saying I don't...), but I'd rather when a trip to meet Van Gogh than one of them. Sadly, I can't. How crappy is that?
And this song, Starry Starry Night, is beautiful too. Especially when Josh Groban sings it. Or when Chloe Angew sings it.
<3 you Van Gogh and don't forget it.
I own none of these photos.
Beautiful, beautiful song and art and post as a whole. Starry, Starry Night is one of my all-time favorite paintings. If I could own one famous painting (or a print), that'd be it.
ReplyDeleteReally? Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI don't know which Van Gogh painting I'd choose. I love so many of his. I don't know all there names, sadly.
I think I'd go with all his night pictures because of all the brilliant blue and yellows together. I also like his landscapes a lot.
Ahem, the song "Starry Starry Night" was originally written and performed by Don McLean.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't mention him. I wonder why :)
Yeah, I thought I did. I put it under the song, blind old lady. ;]
